Why Retailers Need an e-Strategy

November 14, 2012

Today’s chart shows daily e-commerce sales during holiday season compared to the annual average.

Thanksgiving is only nine days away and so is the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Retailers, both on- and offline, are ramping up their promotions in preparation for the year’s biggest shopping days.

Last year’s shopping activity peaked on Cyber Monday, the Monday following Thanksgiving, when e-commerce sales reached an all-time single day record of $1.25 billion. Retailers will surely be looking to top that number this year and it would be a surprise if they didn’t succeed.

During last year’s holiday season, average daily e-commerce sales amounted to $609 million, almost 40 percent higher than the annual daily average of $444 million.

For retailers and manufacturers alike, the holiday quarter is incredibly important and many companies are beefing up their product line ups in time to lure holiday shoppers.
