2011 has proven to be a pivotal year for the technology industry. Sales of smartphones and tablets easily outpaced desktops and laptops for the first time. As the growth in shipments increases, the impact on our lives, commerce and how we interact with technology will change more quickly than we may believe is possible today. Some of the biggest companies today and their business models did not even exist a few years ago.

To stay competitive companies (and indeed industries) will need to adjust their value chains to accommodate the shift. Is there enough talent and imagination out there to sustain the change? Already the demand for big data miners has outstripped supply! Will today’s incumbents be capable of   adjusting to a world where almost every consumer is connected?
